School Involvement

We are hoping to deploy a minimum of three telescopes across the Diocese and collect and compare data from the extremes of the Diocese.

What we thought is one school in the MacArthur (North West), one in Wollongong (Coastal Central) and Nowra (Coastal South).

Along with the sorts of measurments SpaceAus are looking for us to make we would like to look for and differences in the signals recorded by each of the sites. This means that the individual teams need to collaborate across the Diocese. We will use Zoom to minimise travel and face to face meeting.

Each telescope would have a team of 5 or so students. We would reccommend that the team members create specialist positons:
  • Team Leader
  • Media Officer
  • Software Manager
  • Hardware Assembly
  • Data Manager

Obviously the teams can choose how they do this and these positions are not mandatory just a guide.

The data collection will begin in March 2020 and run for about six months. This way we will get to look at the Milky Way for one half of the orbit of the earth.

We will report our data to the SpaceAus team and to the Diocese at Spotlight20 our Spotlight on Technology conference.

The ICLT Team will cover all costs of the project and will send equipment to all schools participating.

An FAQ will be put together shortly.
